Luka Doncic joins the list of illustrious names after scoring 73 points in the NBA

Luka Doncic became the fourth player to score 73 points or more in the history of the NBA, leading the Dallas Mavericks to victory over the Atlanta Hawks 148-143.

The 24-year-old also set a Mavericks franchise record, easily surpassing his personal best of 60 points, scoring 41 in the first half.

Doncic now joins the list of elite players, as he is equal with Wilt Chamberlain and David Thompson with 73 points, while Chamberlain holds the record in the NBA by scoring 100 points, and he played a game of 78 points, while Kobe Bryant collected 81 points.

The Slovenian's impressive tally comes just four days after Joel Embiid set a new team record for the Philadelphia 76ers after scoring 70 points in a 133-123 win over the San Antonio Spurs.

Doncic's 73 points helped the Mavericks to an important win after entering the game on a three-game losing streak.

“We've been struggling lately. The mentality has been to go for the win,” Doncic told the NBA website.

“(The performance) is probably at the top, one of the tops. But I am happy that we got the win.”

In the Western Conference, the leaders, Oklahoma City Thunder, won their fifth match in a row, defeating the New Orleans Pelicans 107-83, while the Los Angeles Clippers achieved a landslide victory over the Toronto Raptors 127-107.

The Memphis Grizzlies achieved a difficult victory over the Orlando Magic 107-106, and the Indiana Pacers achieved a difficult victory over Phoenix 133-131, although Devin Booker scored 62 points for the Suns.

The Houston Rockets defeated the Charlotte Hornets 138-104, and the San Antonio Spurs achieved an important 116-100 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers.

In the Eastern Conference, Milwaukee lost 112-100 to the Cleveland Cavaliers, as the Bucks announced the appointment of Doc Rivers as their new coach after the match.
