Meeting the tallest man and smallest woman in the world

They may be more than six feet apart, but the world's tallest man and shortest woman found common ground when they met this week.

The 8ft 3 (251cm) Sultan Kosen overtook fellow Guinness World Record holder Jyoti Amge, who is just over 2ft (62.8cm), when they met in California on Monday.

As they sat cross-legged together on the floor, their vastly different statures could not have been more evident.

One of Mr. Cossin's feet is 14.3 inches (36.5 cm) long and is more than half as tall as Ms. Amge.

The duo had previously met in Cairo in 2018, where they visited the Giza Pyramids together.

Mr Kosen, from Turkey, officially became the world's tallest living man in 2009 when he was discovered to be more than 10cm taller than Bao Xishun, who held the record at the time.

He also holds the record for the largest living hand, with each hand measuring 11.22 inches (28.5 cm) from the wrist to the tip of the middle finger.

Mr Kosen, 41, was growing normally until he was 10, but the tumor caused him to develop a medical condition called pituitary gigantism.

The record holder, who has 241,000 followers on Instagram, needs specially made clothes and sleeps in a three-metre-long bed.

Their small size is caused by a form of dwarfism called achondroplasia, which means they will never grow beyond a certain height.

When Ms. Amge was 15 years old, she held the record title for the shortest teenager alive.

Three years later, she became the world's shortest living female, a title she has held ever since.

Amge, who has 1.4 million followers on Instagram, achieved her dream of becoming the shortest actress in the world after appearing in the American television series American Horror Story.
