The practice of an athlete’s farewell message to the fan base has become a basic science.
A photo of the athlete embracing the fans, a direct thank you for all the support, a memory of the good times (assuming there were), a mention of how the city embraced their family and vice versa, a pledge the community will be a part of them regardless of whether they play. These are all tried and true tools available to the athlete or social media team.
In his farewell message to Denver BroncosMelvin Gordon ran backwards…a different track.
Yes, that would be a reference to OJ Simpson’s Ford Bronco in his infamous car chase on Highway 91 in Los Angeles. This could mean Gordon signs with Los Angeles Rams or chargers? Let’s hope not.
Gordon He was waived by the Broncos on Mondaythe day after costly stumbled into a loss Las Vegas Raiders. Gordon was in his third season with the Broncos after joining the team by free agency in 2020, then re-signed to a one-year deal out of last season.
In three seasons and 41 games with Denver, Gordon posted 2,222 rushing yards (4.4 yards per attempt) and nine touchdowns on the ground, as well as 594 receiving yards and three touchdowns in the air. But crucially, he also fumbled 12 times, including five in just 10 games this season.
That got Gordon fired from the Broncos this week, but at least he got to enjoy himself on the way out.
