(Montreal) The Montreal Police Service (SPVM) is investigating a shooting inside a public library in the borough of Saint-Michel on Sunday afternoon.
Caroline Chevrefils, SPVM’s media liaison officer, said emergency services were alerted at around 3pm after witnesses heard “firecrackers” coming from a toilet room for people with reduced mobility.
When they arrived at rue François-Perreault, not far from rue Michel-Ange, police found bullet casings on the bathroom floor. They also observed projectile impacts on the walls of the room, says Mme Honeysons.
“According to witnesses at the scene, the suspects opened fire and then fled before police arrived,” the Advertiser continues.
Although several patrons were in the library, no one was injured.
The location was secured for investigators and forensic identification technicians to analyze the scene and clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.
No one has been arrested in connection with the case yet, but the investigation is ongoing.
Mme Chèvrefils notes that searches could be carried out with surveillance cameras located in the area to track down suspects.
