Mother’s Day is this Sunday, May 12, but those planning outdoor activities may postpone their plans. When it comes to good weather, not everyone is a winner in the province this weekend.
“This weekend, we will be under the influence of a trough, in other words, cold air aloft. This low-pressure area is favorable for the formation of clouds and precipitation, thus giving us unsettled weather. Temperatures will be colder than normal if a trough occurs,” explains meteorologist Kevin Cloutier. .
Heavy rains will cause difficulties
Intermittent rain is forecast, mainly in the Montreal region, as well as Monterrey and Estrey. However, rain should also be expected in the Laurentians, Abitibi-Temiskamingu and Caspé.
This year for Mother’s Day, “temperatures will be a bit cooler than what we’ve experienced in the last couple of years, with more clouds and rain,” says meteorologist Kevin Cloutier.
Permissions are expected
In between some showers, the sun appears. Val-d’Or, Quebec and Gaspé will have an average of seven hours of sunshine this weekend. In Montreal, Sunday looks especially cloudy as the amount of sunshine is cut in half from one day to the next.
In Saguenay, Quebec and Sept-Îles, the weather will be even milder, with changeable skies and less than a millimeter of precipitation expected. These three cities will be 15, 13 and 7 degrees respectively.
Colder than normal temperatures in southern Quebec
“In southern Quebec, the temperature at this time of year is 15 degrees, normally 18 degrees. So, we’re still a few degrees below normal,” reports meteorologist Kevin Cloutier.
