Lauryn Hill has blamed poor ticket sales caused by media “hype” for the cancellation of her 2024 US tour with the Fugees.
In a statement addressing the tour cancellation, Hill blamed the media for creating an “unfortunate image” in light of her previous tour being postponed in 2023.
“Last year, I suffered an injury that required the rescheduling of some of my shows. Unfortunately, some media outlets’ penchant for sensationalism and emotional headlines apparently created a narrative that affected ticket sales for the North American leg of the tour,” Hill wrote.
“It seems that the confidence and faith I have in my intentions and commitment to my art has been overshadowed by this unfortunate portrayal,” Hill continued. “I can assure you that no one is more disappointed than me that I am unable to perform.”
Hill said her scheduled shows with the Fugees in the UK and Europe are “progressing as planned” due to the fact that audiences “not only haven’t seen the ‘Miseducation Anniversary’ show yet, they haven’t seen the Fugees perform together in over 25 years!”
She also expressed her gratitude to those who “support my art,” and assured her fans in North America that “when these unforeseen circumstances are resolved, we will return with full force.” Read her full statement below.
The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill 25th Anniversary Tour was scheduled to kick off in the US on Friday, August 9, with support from Hill’s son, YG Marley. The Fugees were originally scheduled to tour in 2021, following their first reunion in 15 years.
The European tour is currently scheduled to kick off in October, stopping in Dublin, London, Paris, Berlin and other cities. Get tickets here.
