New Dying Light Game Officially Announced at Gamescom 2024

Following a live teaser from Geoff Keighley, Techland has officially revealed a new game in the Dying Light series at Gamescom Opening Night Live, titled Dying Light: The Beast.

As seen in the trailer, The Beast features the return of protagonist Kyle Crane, a new open-world area, and 20 hours of gameplay.

According to a press release, The Beast is a standalone game set in the post-apocalyptic forests of Castor. The player, as Kyle Crane (voiced again by Roger Craig Smith), escapes after being held captive and experimented on for 13 years following his previous appearance in the series. Now free, he seeks revenge on those who helped keep him captive. The game’s title “beast” is a massive monster that roams the forests… but Crane, after the experiments performed on him, now has zombie DNA woven into his own, giving him “beast-like strength” that he can use to take down. So who’s to say who the title monster really is?

The Beast will feature a four-player co-op mode with shared progression, but will also allow solo players. Additionally, owners of Dying Light 2: Stay Human Ultimate Edition will get The Beast for free ($39.99 for everyone). While the game originally started out as DLC for the Dying Light 2 story, after two years it has “evolved into a standalone, self-contained experience.”

Dying Light: The Beast is set to launch on PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, Xbox, and PlayStation at an undisclosed date. A release date is expected to be announced later this year.
