The New York Mets got a defensive player Tyler Naken and left Philip Del From the Cincinnati Reds Thursday night, the teams announced.
New York sent minor league second baseman Hector Rodriguez and right-winger Jose Acuna to Cincinnati to complete the deal.
The 31-year-old Naquin gives the NL leading Mets a veteran and left-handed bat with strong career numbers (.280/.332/.473 with 50 right-handers). He’s mostly played on the right field this season in Cincinnati but has experience in all three positions.
Naquin hits .246 with 12 doubles and 31 RBI this season, hitting his seventh home run earlier Thursday, a single shot in a 7-6 loss to the Miami Marlins.
He spent his first five seasons in Cleveland before signing with Sensi as a free agent last year. He’s a free agent again after this season.
Diehl, 28, has seen limited business in the majors, including five relief appearances and 11.12 ERAs this season. His last appearance for the Reds came on May 7, and since then he has been promoting the team’s minor league side in Louisville, collecting a 4.24 ERA with 30 strikes in 25 games.
The deadline for trading in Major League Baseball is Tuesday.
