A motorist found himself at the heart of a spectacular collision with a deer that forced its way onto Route 148 during rush hour in Pontiac, Outtawai, before ending up in a utility pole Friday morning.
Public safety at the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais was alerted by calls to 911 at 4:15 a.m. to the crash on Route 148 near Chemin Elm.
According to initial reports, the woman, who was alone on board, reportedly hit the deer before crashing into a power pole.
A Hydro-Québec pole was completely snapped and power lines were suspended in the street, but no one was injured.
The Quebec Ministry of Transport (TMQ) noted on Twitter that Route 148 is closed in both directions between Elm and Maple roads.
Although a detour is proposed for users via Maple, Elm and Terry-Fox roads, it will complicate the Friday morning commute.
A team from Hydro-Québec went to the site to secure the wires, but the work is likely to drag on by morning, it added.
