The San Diego Padres placed catcher Luis Camposano on the 10-day injured list on Saturday because of left thumb soreness. The good news is that the team does not expect to need all 10 days.
“The good news is we don’t think there will be anything that continues over the last 10 days.” Padres manager Mike Shildt Camposano said before Saturday’s premiere at 4:15 p.m. “We were in that moment, we could go tomorrow, not sure what you’re going to look like, not sure how you’re going to recover.” As we all know in this game, you can play with a regular creature that crashes for a few days, but it’s hard not to have a backup hunter.
“Also, we feel like if he has to (play), he can, but there might be some pushback.”
Camposano suffered a bruise on his thumb when he received a throw from Yuki Matsui on Thursday. He wasn’t comfortable swinging the bat on Friday and was scratched from the starting lineup moments before the first pitch.
In a corresponding move, the Padres recalled Brett Sullivan from Triple-A El Paso. He is likely to start Sunday afternoon’s game.
Sullivan leads the Chihuahuas with 11 home runs and is hitting .282/.353/.546 in 54 games in the Pacific Coast League. However, he was 0-for-2 in the three major league games in which he appeared.
