Paramore canceled the remainder of their North American tour due to illness.
Dame Hayley Williams, 34, is battling a lung infection, forcing the This Is Why group to postpone four shows after the 34-year-old singer’s body “just gave up” after she initially tried to fight back.
However, after completing a couple of rescheduled concerts in San Francisco on Monday, August 7, and Seattle on Wednesday, August 9 — which Williams said “got a little scary,” the band had to pull the plug on their shows at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland tonight (Aug. 10) and the Delta Center in Salt Lake City on Sunday, Aug. 13.
The scheduling upsets came after Williams and her bandmates previously held one of their concerts in July by bringing in Billie Eilish as special guests for a show in Los Angeles.
In a statement on her Instagram Stories, Hayley said, “Hi everyone, we just got off the stage in Seattle. After speaking with our team and my doctor, I know that trying to finish this round will now be detrimental to my health.
My lungs aren’t healing fast enough to keep up. It got a little scary tonight.
She continued, ‘We will ask the team to publish an official statement as soon as possible, but we will have to cancel the last two shows of the tour so I can finally get better. I know some of you are already camping in Portland so I just wanted to get this out there.
I am so sorry for all the chaos this has caused some of you. I really tried to kick that shit. I love you all.
In addition to Williams on lead vocals, Paramore also features guitarist Taylor Yorke and drummer Zac Farrow.
In a subsequent official statement posted to the band’s Twitter account, she wrote that she was “doing everything I can to fight this infection so we don’t have to disappoint anyone with more news of postponements and cancellations”.
She added that she was risking long-term damage if she did not immediately stop performing and take time to heal.
Refunds will be available to ticket holders at the point of purchase.
The singer recently responded to the “internet brethren” who criticized her for postponing shows.
One user went so far as to share a misogynistic post calling the singer the C-word, in which they also claimed that if Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, 54, can break his leg on stage and still perform, then Hayley should be able to hold it. on me.
They tweeted: ‘b**** about how hard it is [touring] 34 year old… Dave f****** Grohl, falls off stage, breaks leg and gets back up to finish being put in a wheelchair 50 year old… She’s a boozy hypocrite*** [sic]”.
Hayley responded to the post and proceeded to reveal that she had a lung infection that prevented her from being able to sing properly.
She replied, “I have a lung infection, Lynn!” Not a broken limb. One you can sing along with for two hours, and one you can’t sing along with.
‘But do not worry! The shows weren’t canceled, they were only pushed back for a week [sic]”.
Then she added one final dig at the sassy poster: “Maybe you should go out to one… like Dave did.”
Hailey went on to write another post calling out those who pit female artists against their male counterparts.
“The Internet bro has been pressured by my closeness to rock music and all its subgenres since 2005. The only thing that’s changed is the platform from which they unleashed their ignorance,” she grumbles.
Don’t think for a second that your favorite bands – metal, punk or otherwise – endorse your weird a** lifestyle.
She added, ‘A lot of these bands have stood on the side stage at our shows and treat us with respect. Why? BC they were not threatened by a strong woman front[ing] A great band in a completely different kind of music.
Crying laughing at myself I love when I have a lot of time [sic]And concluded.
In a later post in response to someone who compared her work ethic unfavorably to Metallica and Iron Maiden, Hayley replied: ‘No James [Hetfield] Nor Bruce [Dickinson] Your **** will suck for this, love.
