The Paris 2024 Olympics are underway, and the U.S. women’s gymnastics team begins qualifying on Sunday at Bercy Arena. Simone Biles, Jade Carey, Jordan Chiles, Sunisa Lee and Hazel Rivera will be looking to return to form in Paris after winning the team silver medal at Tokyo 2020.
Biles, already the most decorated gymnast in American history, is a four-time gold medalist and 23-time world champion, and is returning after battling “sprains” in 2021.
The US team will play in the second division on Sunday, along with China and Italy. The US team will start its campaign on the balance beam.

The lone freshman on Team USA didn’t quite score her best, tripping several times on her disorganized descents. She earned a 12.633. Keep in mind that each team uses only three of the four scores, so Simone Biles and Sunny Lee could have erased that by meeting their usual standards.

Great Britain lead the team qualifiers after Division 1, with Team USA in pole position
The first division, which featured Great Britain, Romania, Mexico and a variety of other countries, has just finished qualifying. Great Britain and Romania were the only two full teams in the competition, with Great Britain leading the two-team race with a total score of 160.830. Romania followed with a total score of 159.497.
Romania’s Ana Barbosu leads the all-around competition with 53.533 points.
