The hunt for fugitive Jerome-Vincent Vaillancourt continued for a second day Thursday in Bas-Saint-Laurent.

At press time, the 42-year-old wanted for illegal liberties had not yet been located.
The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) has shown discretion in its public statements, limiting itself to saying that police officers are on the ground and that investigators are still “being assigned” to the incident.
“For obvious security reasons, for our members, the public and the individual in question, we cannot divulge further. [d’information] Regarding their position in the field,” Sergeant Helene St-Pierre said.
According to Radio-Canada, police have not ruled out that the suspect may have gone to New Brunswick. However, SQ is unwilling to confirm this possibility.
Vaillancourt, a man with a criminal record, fled when he saw Maton. He then left the road at Saint-Ulrig and ran on foot.
