Rudd brought up a corny clip from “Mac and Me” – a movie about a young wheelchair user who forms a touching friendship with an alien that’s certainly not based on any creatures from Previous Most Famous Movie – for O’Brien’s various shows for nearly 20 years. It began in 2004, when Rudd showed the clip during his appearance on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” to discuss the upcoming “Friends” finale, per NEWSWEEK. Rudd offered to play a short excerpt from the latest “Friends”. Of course, that wasn’t what he played.
“There are a lot of surprises in the last episode,” Rudd said after the clip ended. “It was very emotional.”
Since then, it’s become a gag, with Rod periodically Stream video on O’Brien After showing it to play clip From any project he appeared on recently.
This time, Rudd expertly prepared the joke, passionately talking and detailing his new project – an audio series co-starring Adam Scott, Ken Marino and Celia Weston. About 20 minutes into this, Rudd asked if O’Brien wanted him to “play a little more?”
“certainly!” O’Brien said, taking the bait.
The guys had a computer screen in the room with them, and when O’Brien’s producer rolled out the “Mac and Me” clip, he realized he’d been cheated again.
“Oh, for Christ’s sake!” groan.
“Why? Why!…You can’t do that on a podcast! That’s why I wasn’t expecting it!” O’Brien stole as the clip continued. “It’s a visual joke!”
In fact, it turns out to you maybe Do it on a podcast – because Rod did it. Well, YouTube is here, thank God their interview (above) was taped.
O’Brien later admitted he didn’t see the prank coming at all.
“I just heard the ‘Mac and Me’ segment that totally surprised me, honestly,” he told listeners. “I swear on my life.”
The best part? Rudd said he made the entire Audible series, which he talked about in much of the interview.
None of that was true, said Rudd mischievously.
“The joke continues,” O’Brien muttered.
