Payday 3 requires a permanent online connection

Payday 3 requires a permanent online game connection, even if you are playing alone.

That’s according to a recent Payday 2 livestream with Almir Listo, Starbreeze’s Global Brand Manager, who confirmed the news while fielding questions from fans about the upcoming shooter. You can watch the answer for yourself at 9 minutes 17 seconds in the video below:

When asked if Payday 3 would include an “offline mode, like single-player play,” Almir replied: “No. You’ll be able to play it yourself, but I think you have to have a connection in order to play because it’s made in the Unreal Engine, it’s uses cross progression, [and] across play. I guess we want you to be online.”

The news hasn’t gone over well with all corners of the Payday community, and particularly with the ardent moderators some Going so far as to say that they will be canceling their pre-order now because it will not be playable offline.

Added one of the disgruntled players in Steam forums. “I will not buy a PD3, nor will I buy any future games from your company.”

“Tough pass for me, I was even willing to accept your microtransactions and FOMO bs greed for playing this game,” last. “I’ve played enough Hitman to accept always online is complete bullshit and there’s no reason for that unless you’re making an MMO. I feel bad for people who come home from work just because the servers are down or under maintenance because of OnLiNe OnLy.”

However, not all fans are interested in this decision.

Another added, “I’m not going to lie, I was pissed off but I had time to think about it again and come to the conclusion that I really didn’t care if he was always online or not.” “We don’t earn anything for being always online, but I want to play Payday 3 because I’m so excited.”

In other Payday 3 news, Starbreeze has released a new teaser to show off the stealth shooter gameplay…but Only if you know where to look.

“On the surface, Payday 3 isn’t a sequel that fundamentally changes the series’ defining formula,” Ian wrote in his final Payday 3 review.

Instead, it improves on what was already good about Payday 2, and makes the heist action of the series feel more believable. Starbreeze has always said it wanted to make the ultimate crime fantasy game, and from what I’ve recently played-in with, it certainly looks like Payday. 3 takes a huge step in the right direction.”
