A 25-year-old man attempted to kill himself with a gun Thursday evening in the Ahuntsic-Cartierville area of Montreal.
Police were called at 11:20pm to Place de la Colombière near Avenue Olivier-Maurault for a man with gunshot wounds.
While the victim was outside a parked vehicle, a suspect approached him and pointed his weapon in his direction, striking him in the upper and lower body.
The suspect then left the scene in an unknown direction, said Montreal Police Department spokesman Jean-Pierre Brabant.
Agent Braband said the victim, who was not known to police sources, was located and taken to the hospital, but his life was not in danger.
Caskets were found on the ground in an area where a security perimeter had been erected to protect the scene for the purpose of the police investigation.
Investigators must go to the scene to analyze the dinner, meet with the victim and witnesses and try to determine the circumstances of this attempted murder.
A dog unit was also called to the scene to assist in the search, according to the SPVM, which has not yet announced any arrests.
