Pride parade canceled after disruption in Toronto

The Toronto Pride Parade was canceled earlier Sunday evening due to interruptions.

Pride Toronto announced on its social media at 6:15 p.m. that the “remaining parade has been canceled.”

“We apologize for the inconvenience. Street parties and stages remain open,” the first release pointed out.

An official press release arrived hours later on Pride Toronto’s social media channels.

“Today, in order to uphold our commitment to ensuring public safety, we have decided to cancel the remaining Pride Parades. We deeply respect and protect the right to peaceful protest, but our priority is the well-being of all participants and spectators,” the statement said in English.

Toronto police shared Pride Toronto’s post on their X account announcing the cancellation of the parade.

The police force said its agents were on site to “facilitate the safe movement of people and cars”.

Pride Toronto did not confirm the reason for the cancellation shortly after the parade began.

However, numerous images of pro-Palestinian demonstrators were shared on social media.

In the images, demonstrators can be seen holding a banner denouncing the fact that the march’s partners in Gaza are also “complicit with genocide”.
