(Montreal) The FIQ and FAE strikes continue this Friday, while the General Front’s three-day strike ends.
The Interprofessional Health Federation (FIQ), which represents 80,000 nurses, practical nurses and other healthcare professionals, is holding a walkout on Thursday and Friday, affecting most healthcare institutions.
The Federation of Autonomous Education (FAE), comprising 66,000 teachers at primary and secondary levels, began an indefinite walkout on Thursday.
As for the 420,000 members of the General Front, made up of CSQ, FTQ, CSN and APTS, its three-day walkout ended on Thursday evening. So these union members returned to work on Friday.
Negotiations with the Quebec government to renew the collective agreements are ongoing. On Thursday, Prime Minister François Legault said he was open to improving his offer if the unions involved showed more “flexibility” in organizing work.
All four constituent bodies of the General Front will meet on Sunday to review the talks and decide whether to continue with their strike mandate. The General Front has an unlimited strike mandate, but has so far held only one-day and three-day strikes.
