Quentin Tarantino denies Kanye’s claim he stole ‘Django Unchained’ plot – Deadline

“There is no truth to the idea that Kanye West came up with an idea django. Then he said it to me and I said, ‘Hey, my gosh, this is a really cool idea, let me take Kanye’s idea and make Unlock Django Get out of it.” Well, that didn’t happen,” Tarantino told Kimmel.

Tarantino admitted, “Hu [West] she did I had an idea for a video, and I thought it was meant for gold prospector Video, that he would be a slave. And the whole thing was the slave story, where the slave is, and he’s singing “Gold Digger.” It was very funny. It was a really funny idea.”

Kimmel then asked, “Funny slave video?”

“It was supposed to be ridiculous,” Tarantino explained. “It’s like a huge musical. I mean, like not making any expense with him in a slave rag costume, doing everything. And then that was also part of the pressure on her.”

In the end, the music video for “Gold Digger” didn’t match the idea West claimed to have. Unlock Django is a 2012 Western film about a freed slave (Fox) who teams up with a bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) to free his wife from slavery.
