Heavy rain is expected in many parts of the province. Some areas may receive up to 50mm of rain. How humid is your area? All details.
A system that dampens everything in its path
Heavy rain is expected on this first day of the Canada Day long weekend. The system will gradually enter Quebec, moving first to the western parts of the province. A little heavy rain will fall in the morning, especially in the Abitibi-Temiskaming area. It is raining day by day. In the afternoon, areas north of the river may be surprised by some heavy rain.
In general, 20 to 40 mm of precipitation is expected for a good portion of Quebec, with a little more inland (up to 50 mm) under some storms. The rain will continue till Sunday evening.
A small series of storms on the horizon
The risk of thunderstorms will be very low during the day, with a few isolated thunderstorms. However, in areas near the Ontario border, slightly more violent cells could spoil things Saturday afternoon. Who is most responsible for this disruption? A cold front. Thus, a small series of storms may form behind this cold front.
Thunder may be involved
Those who wake up at the slightest sound in their ears may find sleeplessness at night from Saturday to Sunday. In fact, thunderstorms are possible in some areas, especially south of the river, particularly in Montérégie, Estrie, Centre-du-Québec and the greater Montreal region.
A Sunday in intensive observation
Despite heavy rain this Saturday, this “weather party” will continue on Sunday. During this time, there may be heavy rain with thunder. In fact, there are more materials to create storms, which can trigger some sectors. Here and there moisture and a few gaps of sunshine will allow the atmosphere to warm up, promoting instability. Add to this recipe the passage of a cold front to the south of the province, which, in turn, will support an upwelling. With these storms, the southern regions will see their rainfall totals.
As a general rule, it’s going to be a pretty gray day across Quebec this Saturday of the long weekend. This should at least please those planning to go on July 1st and have their noses in boxes all day! However, it’s best to wait before moving these same boxes from inside the house to the car, because today it can be an almost impossible task to accomplish this task without getting wet! The sun will be back in force on Monday, as if to give movers a fresh sunny start.
