It promises to be another busy weekend based on disruptions to Montreal’s road network. Many bridges are avoided by motorists.
This is particularly the case of the Papineau-LeBlanc Bridge, which spans Highway 19 between Laval and Montreal, which will be fully closed in both directions from 10 p.m. Friday to 11 p.m. Sunday.
The Transport Ministry expects increased congestion in the area and is recommending that road users planning to travel there allow more time to reach their destination.
The Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine tunnel will be fully closed overnight in both directions between Montreal and Longueuil from 11 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday and from 11 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday.
To overcome this obstacle, the Mobilité Montréal organization invites motorists to use the Jacques-Cartier bridge.
The Honoré-Mercier Bridge will also be closed, but only in the Kahnawake direction, from 5 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday. Traffic then flows in the opposite direction, usually one lane in each direction on the Montreal-bound section.
At the Saint-Pierre interchange, Mobilité Montreal warns that the route from Route 138 (coming from the Honoré-Mercier bridge) to Autoroute 20 will be closed from 11:59 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.
Route 138 eastbound will be completely closed between Rue Clement and the interchange.
In Montreal, Pie-IX Boulevard southbound between Hochelaga and Ontario Streets will be completely closed from Friday 11pm to Monday 5pm for the Service Rapid Bus (SRB) project.
Due to a systems update, Réseau express métropolitain (REM) users will not be out as service will not start until 7:30am on Saturday. Bus shuttles will operate between Brossard and Central Station between 5:30am and 7:30am.
This reduced schedule is in addition to the one already in place on the night of October 15 and accordingly, the service is disrupted from 10 pm until the network reopens the next day.
