Rob Schneider: Bill Murray hates SNL Cast, Adam Sandler, Chris Farley

Schneider was interviewed on SiriusXM “The Jim Norton & Sam Roberts Show” (via THR) when he said his SNL cast got a warning when Murray came over to host an episode.

An unnamed director told Schneider and the team, “Bill Murray is coming in, he’s going to change the dialogue. He’s going to change things, and it’s going to be cool, but you don’t know who you’re going to get. Which Bill Murray will you get. Cute Bill Murray? Or are you going to get the hard Bill Murray?”

“He’s very nice to the fans,” Schneider said of Murray. “He wasn’t very nice to us… He wasn’t much – he hated us on ‘Saturday Night Live’ when he hosted us. He absolutely hates us. I mean, the boil. He hated Chris Farley passionately. Like he was boiling looking at him.”

Schneider said he didn’t know “exactly” why Murray hated Farley, but he shared his belief that it had to do with Farley’s emulation of the fiery comedic style of John Belushi, Murray’s original cast member on SNL who passed away. Schneider said Farley “thought it was cool that it was out of control,” noting that Murray may not have wanted to see that.

“That’s my interpretation, but I really don’t know,” Schneider added. “I don’t believe it. I think it’s only 50 percent.”

Schneider also said that Murray “really hated Sandler too” because he “didn’t care about that, you know? And Sandler was committed to that, and like…once he got on top, you could see the audience just eat him.”

Schneider got his start on “Saturday Night Live” as a writer in 1988 before becoming a cast member in 1990. The actor remained with the sketch comedy show for four seasons.
