Nintendo has confirmed that it will announce a “successor” to the Switch in the current fiscal year, so when can we expect it to launch? While no official release date has been announced for this new system, according to GamesIndustry.biz ABC chief Chris Dring says developers he’s spoken to personally appear to have been instructed “not to expect it” in the current financial year.

Here’s exactly what he said during the latest episode of GamesIndustry.biz’s “Microcast” (via VGC):

“No developer I spoke to expected it to launch this fiscal year. In fact, they were told not to expect it to launch in [current] Fiscal year. A number of people I spoke to hope the report will be released in April or May, early next year, rather than later.

The current fiscal year ends March 31, 2025As we mentioned, these same “people” are hoping for Nintendo’s new hardware to launch by “April or May.” The source also said that no one necessarily wants a clash between something like the new Grand Theft Auto and the Switch, and “all that kind of stuff on top of each other.”

Nintendo celebrated its seventh year on the market in March 2024, and has now sold more than 143 million units Worldwide starting June 2024. Some of the games announced for this current generation of consoles include Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokémon Legends: ZA. The Legend of Zelda series will also return next month.
