A 60-year-old woman lost her life in Lac-Saint-Jean Tuesday evening when her car overturned due to exhaustion while driving.
The female passenger was traveling westbound on Route 169 near Saint-Prime when the crash occurred.
The driver, who is in his sixties, then left his lane and crashed into a ditch on the other side of the road.
“At the moment the cause has not been determined, but we suspect that it is most likely sleep,” explains Sûreté du Québec (SQ) spokesman Hugues Beaulieu.
Both drivers were taken to hospital. Unfortunately, the passenger succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
For his part, the man suffered serious injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
No other vehicles were involved in the incident.
A collision investigation specialist from the provincial police visited the scene to try to understand the causes and circumstances of the tragedy. As of Wednesday morning, there were no restrictions in the area.
