Saquon Barkley contract: Barkley deadline, Giants are here

[UPDATE 10:31]

The Giants reportedly raised a guaranteed money offer

Per Stapleton Recording Art, Giants They collect the amount of guaranteed money they are offering to Barclay. “A person familiar with the situation told NorthJersey.com late Saturday night that he believes the collateral in the offer has increased to $22 million and ‘a smidge on top of that,'” Stapleton writes.

valentines day offer: What is a “smidge” we do not know. What I do know is that this is how the game is played, and what I expected. The Giants were holding $19.5 million in guarantees to give themselves wiggle room to raise their bid at the deadline without exceeding the number they are comfortable with.

Well, no deal can be made without one discussion. While I always felt a deal would be done, I also think the Giants will be flattered to let Barkley play on the franchise tag.

Here’s a livestream Ed did this morning on our YouTube channel discussing Barkley’s situation:

[UPDATE: 8:51 a.m.]

Well, that’s not great news. I actually have to wonder how motivated the Giants will be to make a deal that exceeds the total franchise mark of $22.2 million over the next two years.

Today is the day. By 4 p.m. EST on Monday, we’ll know if Saquon Barkley and the New York Giants have reached a long-term deal, or if Barkley has to decide whether or not to sign the franchise’s $10.091 million mark.

In a recent poll on the Big Blue View Instagram page, 78% of voters thought the team and Barkley would come to an agreement.

What we do know is that recent reporting from Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post indicated that the Giants have so far offered Barkley only $19.5 million in guaranteed money. Barkley’s franchise mark through 2023 and 2024 is worth $22.2 million, so it’s unlikely that Barkley will sign for less than that.

Barkley reportedly turned down two contract offers worth $12.5 million or more annually.

What will happen? We don’t know for sure. What we do know is that you can keep coming back to this post throughout the day for updates and to discuss the situation with concerned Giants fans.
