Saturday Night Live He skipped the traditional cold show and instead went with short clips featuring the cast members and their mothers, in honor of Mother’s Day.
“You know, it’s Mother’s Day in about 29 minutes,” Kenan Thompson said.
“There’s still time to buy a gift,” his mother, Anne, said.
He replied: “I told you, mother, my children are my gift to you.”
“So babysitting them is my gift. How generous,” she said with a bit of sarcasm.
Afterwards, Thompson explained, “With so many upsetting stories in the world right now, we thought we’d take a break from the usual cold and listen to some warm stories from our mothers instead.”
Then his mother responded: “Really? That’s too bad.” I was excited to see who would play Stormy Daniels.
The opening was a different kind of cold open, funny and warm at the same time, because the line readings weren’t as polished. But this isn’t the first time they’ve honored Mother’s Day, as they’ve done it again 2018 And 2021.
Some highlights showed Mickey Day’s mother telling her son: “You’ve already given me the greatest gift ever: a drawing of Beavis and Butthead.”
Colin Jost appeared with his mother with matching blonde haircuts, and complained that their part had been cut off for the sake of time. “Wait a minute,” his mother said, “if I don’t have a line, I won’t get paid.”
“How do you think I feel?” Ghost said. “I’ve spent days developing this.”
The sketch ended with Bowen Yang and his mother, who said of all the parents there: “We are from all over the country, from all sides of the political spectrum, but we can work in harmony. We love all of our children with all our hearts.”
“Oh, that’s really nice, Mom,” Yang said.
Then his mother added, “I have a Tom Brady joke too. Tom Brady is so handsome, he should call me.”
