A 75-year-old woman who was found unconscious in a burning apartment in Ahuntsic last night has died.
“It puts a lot of things into perspective. I tell myself it could have been me,” says the victim’s neighbor, Jocelyn France Guerard.
Distraught by the incident, the 72-year-old woman has yet to step outside the building to see the damage.
“I heard everything yesterday. “There was so much noise… the firemen were on the roof and I saw them carrying something big,” she said.
The fire reportedly broke out around 10pm in an apartment located on the second floor of a residential building located on Boulevard Gouin Est at the intersection of rue De Saint-Firmin.
No other injuries
During their intervention, firefighters found a 75-year-old tenant unconscious in the burning apartment. He was immediately transferred to a hospital center where he died Sunday morning, according to the Montreal Police Service (SPVM).
There was no need to evacuate the building as there were no other injuries from the fire.
As of now, investigators have yet to rule out the nature of the fire, but a criminal investigation has been ruled out. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
