A septuagenarian was killed and his passenger critically injured in an accident between a three-wheeled motorcycle and two cars on Saturday afternoon in the Sainte-Catherine-de-la-Jacques-Cartier sector.
The tragic event occurred on the road to Fossambault, west of Quebec, north of the bridge over the Jacques-Cartier River, around 1:30 p.m.
According to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), a car collided with a three-wheeled motorcycle from behind due to a slowdown in traffic.
“Under the force of the impact, the motorcycle came into contact with the vehicle in front of it,” explains Hélène St-Pierre from the provincial police.
Two persons, a woman and a man, who were traveling in the three-wheeler, were seriously injured. The driver of the machine, Jean-Claude Ouellet, originally from Saint-Raymond-de-Portneuf and 71 years old, succumbed to his injuries after being taken to hospital.
Fossambault Road was closed in the area to allow reconstructionists to establish the exact cause and circumstances of the crash. It reopened around 5:45 p.m.
No other motorists were injured, although two vehicles were involved in the collision.
