According to the South Simcoe Police Service, officers responded to a call shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday about a public disturbance at a home in Innisfil, near Barrie, about 100 km north of Toronto.
The two officers were shot dead inside the home, the police force added in a press release.
They were taken to a local hospital, where one died on Tuesday evening.
The other officer has been transferred to a trauma center in Toronto. Police confirmed his death on Wednesday morning.
The South Simcoe Police Service says the suspect was “in contact” with officers without providing further details.
According to the provincial Special Investigation Unit (SIU), an “exchange of fire” took place between the suspect and officers. The suspect died at the scene.
