SoFi Stadium Bans Concerts on Elevated American Airlines Plaza

More than 100 noise complaints from last weekend’s HARD Summer festival outside SoFi Stadium in Inglewood have led to a ban on future music events at the venue’s elevated American Airlines Plaza.

The elevated stage in the square has been identified as a “major contributor to the issue” of noise complaints, Englewood Mayor James Potts said in a statement.

“Consequently, no stages will be allowed to take place in this area for future events,” Potts added in his statement.

The HARD Summer Festival featured four outdoor music stages located outside SoFi Stadium in the surrounding parking lots.

Potts said the city was “puzzled” by the complaints, given the number of previous outdoor concerts held at the arena without incident. City officials worked with festival organizers Saturday and Sunday to mitigate the problem, which focused primarily on specific “bass frequencies.”

“Moving forward, and with the lessons learned from last weekend, we are prepared to better monitor and supervise future event organizers to minimize the impact of sound and vibration on the community outside the event venue,” Potts said.

The El Segundo Police Department reported on X that they received several calls regarding noise from the HARD Summer 2024 festival at Hollywood Park. The lineup included electronic, house, techno, dubstep, drum and bass, and hip-hop music spread across five stages. It was later revealed that more than 100 noise complaints had been received from El Segundo and other communities in the South Bay.

Performances at the festival included Nelly Furtado, Sofi Tucker, Disclosure, Pant, Camden Cox, Obedan, Sosa, Tico, and more.

“We are aware of the loud noise affecting the city,” El Segundo City officials announced last weekend. “This noise is coming from a music festival near SoFi Stadium, scheduled to take place from 2:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. today and tomorrow. There is no need to call 911 to report it.”

The annual festival was scheduled to run from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. last Saturday and Sunday. It was first held at Hollywood Park, next to SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, and was expected to draw up to 70,000 people per day.

The show has previously been held at the Shrine Exposition Hall, the Forum (now the Kia Forum), Los Angeles State Historic Park, the Whittier Narrows Recreation Area in El Monte, and the Fairplex in Pomona.
