Seven-time Super Bowl champion Brady, who currently plays for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and his wife, Bündchen, a model, are dealing with “marital issues,” according to a source close to the couple.
Another source close to Bundchen told CNN that the two “live apart.”
CNN has reached out to representatives for Brady and Bündchen.
Brady, 45, had retired from the NFL in February, only to later reverse that decision. He took 11 days off training camp in August to “deal with personal matters,” according to head coach Todd Bowles.
“This is a very violent sport and I have my kids and I would like him to be more present,” Bundchen told the newspaper. “I’ve had these conversations with him over and over for sure. But in the end, I feel like everyone has to make a decision that fits [them]. He needs to follow his joy, too.”
“I haven’t had Christmas in 23 years and I haven’t had Thanksgiving in 23, I haven’t been celebrating Christmas with the people I care about who were born from August to late January. And I’m not able to be at funerals and I can’t,” Brady told Gray Being at weddings.” I think there comes a point in your life where you say, ‘You know what? I’ve had enough, enough time and moving on, to move on to other parts of life.”
