Over two days, the Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ) issued 101 tickets and several warnings related to the Road Safety Code during an awareness campaign for users of electric scooters and gyroscopic vehicles.
Over the past few days, the SPVQ visited different parts of the Upper Town, Lower Town, Old Port and Sainte-Foy.
The operations took place on August 13 and 14 and targeted motorized personal transport devices (ATPM). Various sections of SPVQ were invited to participate. In addition to patrol officers, officers from the Motorcycle Division and the Youth Prevention and Intervention Division assisted.
“These activities are intended to ensure the safety of users, compliance with applicable laws and regulations and the fluidity of the road network,” SPVQ recalled in a press release.
“We call on road users to be courteous while traveling so as to avoid incidents that could lead to injuries,” we added.
Officer Maxime Kremer-Gauthier, a police officer with the SPVQ, participated in these operations.
“In recent years, we have seen an increase in the use of these types of devices, which are increasingly popular and present on our roads,” he observed last Tuesday, when we met him at the corner of Chemin Sainte-Foy and Avenue Holland.
ATPM users must be 14 years of age and older, wear headphones and not have headphones in their ears.
