“I am happy to share this with my father, and especially with my mother on her birthday,” the singer wrote in Spanish in her caption.

Shakira She also acknowledged the dedication on the plaque beneath the statue in her caption, saying the kind words were “too much” for her heart.

The 21-foot-tall statue was sculpted by Yno Marquez, a 52-year-old artist who is also an academic coordinator at the Academy of Public Arts in Barranquilla, the Times reported.

In addition to the Shakira statue, the city also decided to erect a statue representing Barranquilla's coat of arms, according to the Times.

The cost of building the statues is about 700 million Colombian pesos, or $180,000, Barranquilla Mayor Pomarejo told The Times.

Marquez says he first met Shakira when she was about 15 years old, according to the Times.
