Take-Two Interactive CEO and Chairman Strauss Zelnick has defended the price of the upcoming Switch and PS4 ports of Red Dead Redemption.
Take-Two publisher Rockstar Games announced on Monday that Red Dead Redemption is coming to Switch and PS4 on August 17, with a physical release to follow on October 13.
It was also announced that the game will cost $49.99 / £39.99, and will also include Undead Nightmare DLC.
IGN Why give the game such a price point, Zelnick asked, especially considering it’s already available on Xbox via backwards compatibility for $29.99 / £24.99 (with Undead Nightmare available for $9.99 / £6.75).
“That’s exactly what we think the commercially accurate price for it is,” Zelnick replied.
After Take-Two Finance EVP Hannah Sage pointed out that the Switch and PS4 versions also included Undead Nightmare Zelnick added that Undead Nightmare was a great indie game in its own right when it was originally released, so we feel it’s a great package for the first time, and it’s definitely going to be one of a kind. Great value for consumers.”
Rockstar’s announcement Monday read: “Experience the epic western adventure Red Dead Redemption and its groundbreaking zombie-horror companion, Undead Nightmare, as both games come to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 for the first time in one package.
In a new conversion by Double Eleven Studios, the Switch and PS4 versions bring the two classic experiences together again for both new players and original fans to enjoy across modern consoles, including backwards compatibility with PlayStation 5.
