At its CES press conference today, TCL announced quite a few things but seemed most proud of its Nxtpaper 3.0 display technology. The company believes it could be a game-changer. Nxtpaper is a hygienic display technology that feels more like paper than a harsh, stark, harmful screen.

According to TCL, 70% of us spend more than five hours a day looking at screens. This leads to significant eye strain and fatigue. Nxtpaper technology was realized as a solution to this pain point. It works by combining hardware and software to achieve the type of screen that is comfortable for your eyes.

In terms of hardware, you have multiple layers stacked on top of the LCD screen that reduce blue light by up to 61%. On top of that, you have a paper coating that reduces glare, reflection, and fingerprints even on the brightest settings. Stefan Street, Chief Marketing Officer at TCL Mobile, showed off the display during the brightly lit press conference and demonstrated that there was no reflection or glare on it.

This technology aims to present the most natural palette possible and prioritize the health of your eyes. Therefore, users will also get regular healthcare reminders that will likely ask them to spend some time away from the screen.

TCL introduced its new paper technology on two devices. The Nxtpaper 14 Pro tablet features a 2.8K resolution and a 240Hz refresh rate. One of the coolest things about the 14 Pro is the button on the top that instantly turns the tablet into an e-reader when pressed. This is a great feature to have in terms of accessibility and mobility. The Tab 10 5G tablet also gets the new paper technology and the TCL 50 series phones along with the 50 XL and 50 XE.
