Messages of congratulations from around the world pour into London after Charles III was formally declared the new king of the United Kingdom.
European Council President Charles Michel wished the new British monarch a “successful and glorious era”.
King Philip VI of Spain sent this message:
On the occasion of the proclamation of the auspicious ascension to the throne, I would like to extend to His Majesty the King, on my own behalf and on behalf of the Government and people of Spain, my sincere congratulations.
Even Russian President Vladimir Putin sent his wishes, saying: “Please accept my sincere congratulations on your accession to the throne. I wish His Majesty the King success, good health, and all the best.”
Putin’s message comes as he wages war against Ukraine, a conflict in which the UK stands firmly on Kyiv’s side.
The United Kingdom sent weapons to Kyiv and provided military training to help the country defend itself against unprovoked Russian aggression.
Meanwhile, the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, wished Charles well.
“On behalf of all Londoners, I wish our new King Charles III all the best as His Majesty takes on such a heavy responsibility,” Khan said in a tweet.
