The Legend of Zelda: Kingdom Tears It is based on the mechanics and world of Breath of the Wild, but there are some elements that are absent such as the Sheikah Towers and Guardians. In their place are things like Skyview Towers and new types of enemies that we did not see in the previous title. But what happened to the Sheikah technology in Breath of the Wild anyway?
Hidemaru Fujibayashi, who directed Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild, gave an explanation in an interview with Telegraph. He explained that Sheikah technology simply disappeared – which is what the people of Hyrule apparently saw. However, Fujibayashi said, “It is considered a mystery.”
Fujibayashi told the outlet:
“They disappeared after the defeat of Calamity (Sealed).” This was also witnessed by all the people of Hyrule, but no one knows the mechanism or reason for their disappearance, and it is considered a mystery. It is believed that since the disaster disappeared, they have also disappeared as their role has been fulfilled.
However, mysterious events and strange phenomena are common in Hyrule. Thus, people simply assumed that the reason behind the disappearance was likely related to ancient Sheikah technology, and it seemed that no one had tried to explore the matter further. The main civilizations in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are very different, so we thought of the game around concepts that resonate with each of those civilizations.
