The finance minister will give a cautious economic update on Tuesday.
A climate of difficult negotiations with the public sector and fear of recession led Eric Girard to try to cut costs.
Inflation in Quebec is 4.8%, higher than the Canadian average of 3.8%.
Unlike last year, Quebecers will not receive a $500 inflation-defying cheque.
Despite everything, Prime Minister François Legault has already indicated that he wants to continue helping citizens.
Housing, adaptation to climate change and the fight against homelessness Mr. Girard’s priorities will be economic renewal.
The CAQ must avoid falling into electoral activities, argued Robert Asselin, first vice-president of public policy at the Business Council of Canada, in an interview with TVA Nouvelles.
“It’s a shame because it’s short-term politics, electoral politics, electoral politics. The problem with this sort of marginally improved aid to get the voter’s credit is that it’s often poorly thought out, poorly targeted, and then, we don’t really see the effect we want,” Mr. Asselin mentions.
“I hope the rational and logical side of the finance minister will prevail over the somewhat incoherent side of the prime minister,” he added.
Minister Eric Girard’s economic update will be delivered at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
