Warning: This article contains spoilers The Masked SingerSeason 11, Episode 5, “Group C Finals: Night of Bathing Chants.”
Rub in dub. It's the night of the shower anthem The Masked SingerAll three returning contestants in Season 11 came ready to take down the competition.
Host Nick Cannon was dressed in underwear for Wednesday's shower theme, as he was completely shirtless under his jacket. Fortunately, all four panelists — Ken Jeong, Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, and Rita Ora — had time to get fully dressed.
The Group C singers kicked things off with a performance of Becky G's “Shower” as bubbles filled the stage. Cannon then announced that there would be a double elimination, first with the lowest vote-getter being eliminated immediately, and then the remaining two would compete for a spot in the upcoming quarterfinals. Despite this, remind the judges that they still have the chance to ring Ding Dong Keep It On Bell to save one contestant from elimination this season.
During the main competition, Cloke sang “Respect” by Aretha Franklin. Lizard surprised everyone by beating Evanescent's nu-metal song “Bring Me to Life”; Poodle Moth performed the song “The House You Built Me” by Miranda Lambert.
Due to the double elimination, the lowest scoring singer of the night was eliminated with no chance of redeeming himself in a battle round, and unfortunately Lizard's big swing at his song choice didn't pay off for him, so he was announced first.
The panelists made their final guesses before the unmasking. McCarthy and Wahlberg switched it from D'Angelo to Ray J, and Jeong went with Michael Bivens, of Bell Biv DeVoe, with whom none of the panelists agreed and even caused Lizard himself to collapse on stage. Thicke said that he and Ora had been on the same page about their guess for some time, with Ora excitedly declaring that they thought it was Cisco, after previously saying that if that was the case, her entire trip to the US had been worth it to meet her. for him.
Fortunately for Ora, her trip to the United States was not a waste, and for the first time this season, the panel was finally able to guess correctly – the Lizard was revealed as Sisqo, “Thong Song”, “Incomplete” and the former Dru. Member for Hale. He revealed that he made the show because his family loves watching it and he has been guessed in previous seasons.
Ora was completely spellbound as a now unmasked Sisqo delivered one last song, song, song, song to the crowd. In a departure from the eliminated contestants who usually performed the same song earlier in the episode, he instead delighted fans by singing his 2000 hit verse over the cheek-revealing outfit.
Clock and Poodle Moth then went head-to-head in a Battle Royale, where they each faced off against “Ain't No Mountain High Enough” by Marvin Gaye and Tami Terrell. Both songs were flawless, but Clock was ultimately declared the winner of the night, meaning Poodle Moth would have to unmask once the panelists made their final guesses.
Following previous evidence that Poodle Moth has a special connection to Thicke's late father Growing pains “Blurred Lines” singer Alan Thicke was convinced it was Shania Twain, who she once sheltered when she first moved to Los Angeles from Canada to pursue a record deal. McCarthy and Wahlberg thought so this is us star Mandy Moore, while Jeong guessed Brooke Shields, and Ora went with Sharon Stone, who Thicke revealed was the “honorary best woman” at his father's wedding.
However, we still don't know if any of them were right, as Ora gave in to the studio audience chanting “ding dong” and ran off to ring the bell just in time, to save Poodle Moth. She and Klock will compete in the upcoming quarterfinals.
Group A will be back next week for Transformers Night, whatever that may be.
