The number of federal employees has exploded since Justin Trudeau took office. According to data released by the Treasury Board, Mr. There are 111,000 more workers employed now than when Trudeau became prime minister.
The central government had 257,000 civil servants in 2015. By 2024 that number had increased by 43% in eight and a half years. By comparison, the Canadian population grew by 15% during the same period.
For MEI’s senior public policy analyst Gabriel Giguere, the increase is exaggerated.
“When you look at the last few years, or look at the level of past prime ministers […] An increase in the number of federal civil service employees, Justin won the Palme d’Or!” he explained to TVA Nouvelles.
Mr. Federal spending on public service salaries has also increased by more than 50% since Trudeau took office.
This significant increase in the number of civil servants is aimed at providing services to Canadians and is particularly the result of the requirements of various federal programs that the Trudeau government maintains.
Treasury Board President Anita Anand was not available to answer questions from TVA Nouvelles on Wednesday.
