Lottery players will get another chance Saturday night to win a Powerball jackpot that has increased to $1.3 billion after more than three months without a winner.
There have been 40 consecutive drawings since the last time someone won the Powerball jackpot on New Year's Day.
Saturday night's 41st drawing will set a record for drawings, which has been set twice before in 2022 and 2021.
The jackpot, which ranks as the eighth-largest in U.S. lottery history, is made so large because the long odds of 1 in 292.2 million make winning so difficult.
This made it possible to renew the jackpot three times a week for several months.
The $1.3 billion prize is reserved for a single winner who is paid through an annual installment, with an initial payment and then 29 annual payments.
Winners always opt for a cash payout, which will be $608.9 million in Saturday night's drawing.
Powerball is played in 45 states plus Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
