A 20-year-old man and woman were caught with their hands in a bag while trying to steal a catalyst from a car in Quebec City early Wednesday morning.
It was a citizen of the Plateau Department in the Saint-Phoebe district who alerted authorities at around 4am. He said a man tried to steal the catalyst from a vehicle parked in the neighborhood before fleeing.
Thanks to the explanation given by the witness, the police were able to quickly locate the suspect’s vehicle. The latter is located at the intersection of Route 138 and Route de Fosambold at Saint-Augustine-de-Desmares.
Eventually, by the Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ), a man and a woman in their twenties were arrested.
Police searched the suspects’ vehicle and the hotel room they had rented. Peace officials later seized a mutual saw, a catalyst and $ 12,000 in Canadian cash.
Both suspects were released on bail after being interrogated by investigators from the Public Crime Unit. It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post.
“We have received several calls in recent weeks that the catalysts have been stolen, but we have no further details. The investigation is ongoing,” said SPVQ spokesman David Bellettier, who reminded us of the importance of making a quick complaint in this type of case.
Keep in mind that these types of pranks became especially popular during epidemics, when thieves used the growing value of rare metals in catalysts to resell them at high prices.
