The Sûreté du Québec had a busy weekend on the highways in the Quebec region. Apart from several impatient motorists who broke the law while returning from vacation, three more drivers were stopped for inebriation.
The first event took place last Friday on the Dufferin-Montmorency highway in Quebec. A 36-year-old man from Beaupré caused a collision near Henri-Bourassa Boulevard at midnight.
He was arrested for drunk driving. At the time of his arrest, his blood was tested and the case is still under investigation.
The driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident was admitted to the hospital with minor injuries.
A few hours later, around 4:30 a.m. Saturday, another drunk driver was stopped on the Robert-Pourassa highway at the intersection of rue de la Morille. The 22-year-old’s license was suspended for 90 days after he failed a breathalyzer test.
Wanted person arrested
On the Lewis side, another man was arrested for impaired driving and possession of methamphetamine. The 40-year-old driver is from Quebec and was caught at kilometer 297 on Highway 20 East around 11:00 a.m. Saturday.
In addition to his ticket for speeding, he was also pulled over for unpaid fines. By having him pass field tests, police discovered the man was a repeat offender and had a warrant for his arrest.
He was remanded in custody pending his appearance on Sunday morning. The 40-year-old was eventually released on a promise to appear.
