According to the Info-pannes website, 6,000 Hydro-Quebec customers were without electricity on Sunday afternoon, mainly in Laurentians, Outauais and Lanaudière.

The previous day, Hydro-Québec had announced that more than 1000 interventions were still needed. The state-owned company said the repair would restore service to only a limited number of customers at a time, sometimes in remote areas.

In Ontario, at 2pm on Sunday, 9,900 Hydro Ottawa customers were still affected by the blackouts.

However, the company, which serves the central capital region, said it had reconnected 94% of customers affected by power outages from storms earlier this weekend.

“In the last nine days, Hydro Ottawa has completed construction, which will take a full year under normal conditions,” he said in a statement, adding that the high winds on May 21 caused five times more damage than the hurricane of 2018.

Elsewhere in Ontario, nearly 12,000 Hydro One customers were without electricity on Sunday afternoon.

The Ontario company has warned that affected customers in the Bancroft, Perth and Tweet areas will still be without electricity for days or weeks.

Unpredictable weather on May 21 killed at least 11 people in Ontario and Quebec. The latest death announced Thursday is the death of a 58-year-old man who was struck by a fallen tree in the remote part of the city of Marmora & Lake.
