I know that some of the best wordle players view ADIEU as a starting word. (Some of my family members do!) But I love it. Better solve the vowels first. It sounds more manageable because there are more consonants. And my dad was a high school French teacher, so I enjoy adding a little French to my mornings.

After starting the ADIEUAnd I often try to use a second word that includes an O along with a couple of common consonants, like R, S, or T. If I spot one vowel after the second guess, I usually include the Y in the third.

I play Wordle in the middle of the morning as a quick getaway from work. I don’t worry too much about cutting down on the number of guesses I need. I care a lot about minimizing the amount of time I need to solve a puzzle. But I usually add one constraint to make it more difficult: I guess only those words that can be the solution to the puzzle.

When it came time to submit my second guess for today’s puzzle, I was a little puzzled. I couldn’t quickly think of a second word that included both an A and an O plus more than one of the letters R, S, or T. Instead, I went with MANOR. When it proved to be a rather lucky guess, I then tried to think of words beginning with MAR. Normally, I’d turn toward the Y at this point, but March It popped into my head, and my good luck continued. This is one of the reasons for guessing words that could be solutions: Sometimes, you get very lucky.

I give Wordle five stars: I enjoyed the puzzle, and as a bonus, it reminded me of John Lewis’s wonderful graphic memoir of the same name.

The word of the day is March. According to Webster’s New World College DictionaryIt is a verb that means to walk with steady, regular steps.

Moderately challenging due to uncertainty, but the strategy can help:

The word has a common letter pattern with five or six possible answers. Getting the answer in six guesses requires strategic choices on each attempt.
