An explosion at an electrical room in Toronto injured two people and left hundreds without power on Saturday.

According to Toronto CityNews, Toronto firefighters said the incident happened in the basement just after midnight Saturday in the area of ​​Lake Shore Boulevard and Don Roadway.

CTV News reports that they were called to the scene after smoke could be seen coming from the electrical room from outside.

According to CTV News, power company Toronto Hydro confirmed in a statement that two contractors working for a third party were injured in an incident in one of its cable rooms.

Health services said two people were taken to hospital following the blast. One of them sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while the other sustained minor injuries.

Between 500 and 1,000 people lost power after an explosion at Toronto Hydro.

“We are aware of an outage affecting customers within the following boundaries: Front Street south of Lake, and DVP east of Lower Jarvis,” the utility said Saturday.
