The first equipment center was opened in the domestic environment as part of the Provincial Environment Programme. A wide range of quality sports equipment is available free of charge to the community.

An investment of more than $15,000 was made thanks to two partners. Pierre LeBreux, director of Loisir et Sport Côte-Nord, and Kenny Fontaine, leisure director of Uashat mak Mani-Utenam, officially opened the new service this Tuesday morning. The subject was chosen after consultation.

“We are proud to open this equipment center. It will become a place dedicated to the exploration and enjoyment of sport, where every enthusiast will discover new fields and find the resources they need to excel themselves,” declared Kenny Fontaine.

A simple loan

“Loisir et Sport Côte-Nord has long worked with indigenous communities. We found it important to have free sports equipment loans for their people. The partnership with Uashat is a continuation of our commitment to making sports activities accessible,” notes CEO of URLS Côte-Nord Pierre LeBreux.

The central office is located at 132 rue des Montagnais. You can borrow items just like you would rent a book from the library. All loans are absolutely free. Following consultation with Uashat representatives, the products available specifically cater to the needs of the community.

The Circonflexe ready-to-go project of Quebec’s network of regional leisure and sports units is implemented in 17 regions with the funding of Isabelle Charest, minister responsible for sport, leisure and outdoors, and dozens of partners working in the domain. There are now 13 central resource centers on the North Shore, including libraries in Baie-Comeau, Port-Cartier and Sept-Îles.
