“Elliott was on his own at the time of filming.”
Elliott was met with an outpouring of support and love. Many fans also wondered how Umbrella Academy He will touch on Elliot’s transition into his story. That’s when Elliot told fans that they can say goodbye to Vanya Hargreeves and hello to Viktor.
During a recent interview with Respectedtransgender journalist Thomas Page McBee explained how he worked with Elliot and Steve Blackman to help provide Viktor with an apt story.
“With every aspect of the show, its story requires its transmission to be a tapestry, not a defining feature of the character,” Thomas said. “The creative hurdles didn’t stop there. The events of Season 3 start right after Season 2, so Victor would not have come to this realization of himself between seasons.”
“Instead, his transformation has to happen during the first episodes, and without the hand-holding that is normally provided for gender-aware audiences.”
Many factors entered into Eliot’s discussions with Thomas, including how Victor came to discover his sexual identity and the ways he chooses to embody that identity.
“Steve and I used Elliott’s insights as a starting point for shaping and overlaying an economic narrative on those present-day scenes—one that resonated with Elliott’s location in his transition at the time of filming.”
Steve helped embody the most realistic reactions from Victor’s family about his move. His siblings realize this life-changing news during the first three episodes of season three.
