Up to 100mm of rain: Here are the dangers

Floods and flash floods

The end of this weekend’s heat record was quite remarkable: Violent storms and heavy rains affected many parts of Quebec. Flooding has occurred in many places. In Trois-Rivières, we saw dozens of cars immobilized on the shoulder of Highway 40 due to heavy rain.

Precipitation in sight

Takes a moisture-soaked texture. Rain will continue across the province throughout the day on Monday before ending on Tuesday morning.

Heavy accumulations are expected and may even reach 100 millimeters in some places. Generally, many regions are entitled to about fifty millimeters.

Risks to watch out for

Such water levels are not normal and can pose many dangers. Hydroplaning is one of them: wet pavement and puddles contribute to loss of control, especially at high speeds. Caution is required on the roads over the next few days.

Additional flash floods may also occur.

CT6 floods

In addition, the soil is saturated with water and cannot absorb all the precipitation. Pieces of earth can slip and be promoted by heavy rains, causing landslides.
