Van crashes in Saint-Jérôme |  A sixty-year-old woman is fighting for her life

A 63-year-old woman is in critical condition after being hit by a van in Saint-Jérôme in the Laurentians on Saturday.


According to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the incident occurred at 12:30 p.m. on Bélanger Street near Curé-Labelle Boulevard.

The driver of the van lost control and hit a pedestrian. The vehicle then continued its journey into the parking lot of a nearby mall.

The victim was seriously injured and taken to the hospital for treatment, fearing for his life.

Police confronted a 35-year-old man who was driving the vehicle. A woman in her 30s and three people under the age of 18 were hospitalized with minor injuries.

Traffic on Bélanger Street was blocked between Curé-Labelle Boulevard and Laviolette Street.

The Saint-Jérôme police department and the Sûreté du Québec are jointly investigating the circumstances and causes of the incident. Re-enactors from the Sûreté du Québec were also dispatched to the scene.
